Walter Bricht
Sonata for Violoncello and Piano. The cello sonata is in the late Germanic romantic style, full of romantic figures and flourishes. It harkens back to the romanticism of Max Reger with its ever-shifting tonal centers, and ahead to the more chromatic style of composers of the interwar period such as Egon Wellesz and Gottfried von Einem. Many contrapuntal devices, including fughetta sections, are effectively utilized in the work. The sonata consists of four movements: Allegro con moto; Largo; Allegretto; and Allegro agitato.
